You Won’t Find a More Unique Grass!
Looking for a unique grass to liven up your landscape or add texture to potted arrangements? The Giant Corkscrew Rush Grass, or Juncus effusus ‘Big Twister,’ is the perfect choice, thanks to its long foliage that grows in a corkscrew pattern.
Unlike other curly rushes, the Big Twister is taller and more upright, lending your landscape a fresh twist. It’s perfect for moist garden beds, water feature edges or in pots on the patio. It’s shiny, smooth corkscrew stems add a textural element to container-planted annuals or perennials. You can even cut the stems and use them in floral arrangements!
The best part? This Giant Corkscrew Rush Grass is incredibly easy to grow. It’s tolerant of most climates, and it’s not susceptible to many diseases and pests. It also grows well in most soil types, including loam, sand and mixed clay. Plus, this twisted grass can thrive even in the heat of warmer climates.
In most areas, the Big Twister Rush Grass will remain green even during the winter, for year-round interest. In colder areas, the foliage will turn brown – you can trim it back when this occurs to encourage new growth.
If you’re looking for a unique grass that will turn heads while remaining easy to maintain, the Giant Corkscrew Rush Grass is the perfect choice!

Planting & Care
1. Planting: Plant in an area with full to partial sun (4-8 hours of sunlight per day). Your Giant Corkscrew Rush Grass loves moist soil, so it will thrive in water gardens or alongside ponds or streams. Dig a hole that’s large enough to accommodate your Giant Corkscrew Rush Grass root ball. After you’ve planted, mulch the surrounding area and water to settle the roots.
In hotter regions, your Giant Corkscrew Rush Grass will thrive in more shade.
If you’re using the Big Twister Rush Grass as an indoor plant, be sure to re-pot it after two to three years.
2. Watering: The Giant Corkscrew Rush Grass is a moisture-lover – keep the soil evenly moist to wet. Water at least weekly, or more often in extreme heat or drought. If you plant your Giant Corkscrew Rush Grass in containers, you’ll also want to water more frequently. Check the soil and water when soil is dry to the touch two inches down.
3. Fertilizing: You can feed your Giant Corkscrew Rush Grass with an all-purpose water-soluble fertilizer in early spring to support healthy and robust growth.
