Planting & Care

1. Planting: Your Mandarin Plant will grow best in bright, indirect light, and can tolerate some shade. The best place for your plant is near an east-facing window that is free from drafts. Keep it away from bright, direct light, which can burn its leaves.

You won’t need to repot your Mandarin Plant originally – it will be happy in it’s shipped container. When your plant’s roots are starting to grow out the bottom of the pot or above the soil on top, it’s time to repot. Choose a pot 1-2 sizes larger than the original container, with good drainage, and plant with organic potting soil.

2. Watering: Your Mandarin Plant prefers consistently moist – but not soggy – soil. You can use your finger to test the moisture level. If the soil feels dry, add water. It’s good practice to test the moisture level every week during the plant’s young life.

FGT Tip: Occasionally, your Mandarin Plant’s leaves may become brown at the tip. If this happens, switch to distilled water. The fluoride in tap water can increase the salt intake, causing the tips of the leaves to turn brown. However, this is not dangerous for the plant, and you can simply prune off the brown tips.

3. Fertilizing: You can add a general house plant fertilizer to your Mandarin Plant every three months, but it is not necessary.
